2. What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit an enquiry, request a valuation, register interest or book a call, we collect:
| Field | Required |
|---|---|
| Name | Yes |
| Email address | Yes |
| Phone number | No |
| Company name | No |
| Industry | No |
| Anything you write in a notes or message field | No |
We also record how you reached us (the referring source, campaign parameters, or a manual tag).
The homepage also includes a business-value calculator. If you move its sliders, the revenue, net profit and owner’s compensation figures you set — and the industry you have selected, if any — are sent to PostHog as analytics data, the same way other interactions on this site are — not tied to your name or contact details unless you separately submit an enquiry. See “Information collected automatically” below for how session recording treats this same calculator differently.
Buyer registration
A dedicated buyer registration form is not currently available on this site. If you reach out to express interest in buying a business, we collect your contact information so our team can follow up with you directly — see section 5 for how it may be shared with our sister brand, Franchise Sellers.
Information collected automatically
We use PostHog for product analytics. It is configured with pageview capture and autocapture enabled, which means it records page visits and interactions with page elements — clicks, form field focus, and the text of elements you interact with. It also collects standard technical data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring URL, and timestamps.
We also use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used — which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, and which pages lead to enquiries. Google Analytics collects the same kind of technical data described above and assigns your browser an identifier so returning visits can be recognised.
We use the Meta Pixel and a Google Ads tag for advertising measurement and remarketing. These record that you visited particular pages on this site and report that activity back to Meta and to Google, which may connect it to your account with those companies if you have one. See section 4 for how to limit this.
We also use PostHog session recording (also called session replay), which reconstructs how a page looked and how you moved through it — mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and the text rendered on the page as you interacted with it — so we can see how the site is actually used and improve it. It is not a live video, and it captures more than the autocapture described above: a reconstruction of the page itself, not just a record that a click happened. We mask sensitive content before it leaves your browser: every text, email and phone field on this site is masked in the recording, and the business-value calculator’s own figures — revenue, net profit, owner’s compensation, personal expenses, and every number calculated from them — are masked specifically, so none of them appear as visible text in a recording, even though the calculator separately sends some of the same numbers to us as described above.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, account credentials, or payment card details through this website.
3. How we use it
- To respond to your enquiry and contact you about it
- To prepare valuations or other materials you have asked for
- To qualify buyers for confidential information about businesses for sale
- To understand which pages and campaigns work, so we can improve the site
- To meet our legal and record-keeping obligations
Marketing. If you submit a form, we may also send you marketing email — market updates, valuation and exit-planning content, and information about our services. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect our response to your enquiry.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use advertising cookies that share information about your visit with Google and Meta so we can measure our advertising and show relevant ads — which some state privacy laws treat as “sharing.” You can turn this off at any time using the Your privacy choices link in our footer, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals automatically.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Analytics. PostHog and Google Analytics 4 set cookies to recognise returning visitors and attribute sessions. Your browser can block or delete cookies; parts of the site may not work as well if you do.
Advertising. We advertise on Google and on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). When our advertising runs, third-party vendors — including Google and Meta — use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website (remarketing) and to measure which ads lead to enquiries (conversion tracking). You can limit this:
- Google — adssettings.google.com
- Meta — your ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account settings
- Industry opt-outs — aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu
- Google Analytics specifically — tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Browser privacy signals. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of any sharing of your data for cross-context advertising.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, for the purposes above:
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Website hosting and delivery |
| Supabase | Database — enquiry and contact records |
| PostHog | Product analytics |
| HighLevel (LeadConnector) | Buyer registration forms and follow-up |
| Website analytics (Google Analytics 4); advertising and ad measurement, when our advertising runs | |
| Meta (Facebook, Instagram) | Advertising measurement and remarketing, when our advertising runs |
Franchise Sellers. Most businesses offered through this site are represented by our sister brand, Franchise Sellers. If you reach out as a buyer or enquire about a business Franchise Sellers represents, your information is shared with Franchise Sellers so it can respond to you about that business.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the business.
6. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and contact records for seven years after our last contact with you, after which we delete or anonymise them — unless the law requires a longer period or you are a client with an active engagement.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy, or to object to certain processing.
California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.
To exercise any of these, email info@companysellers.com. We will verify your request and respond within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for asking.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS) and access-controlled systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
9. Children
This site is intended for business owners and professionals. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted on this page.
